Make Visual Content Accessible

An audio-description narrator describes the visual elements of a project so that people can experience the content without seeing it. This narration makes visual content accessible to blind and low-vision audiences, and to sighted people who wish to experience media in an audio-only format.

Reasons to include audio descriptions

There are many reasons to include audio descriptions in your video content. Many media producers include audio descriptions to comply with regulations (like Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973), or simply to make their content more accessible and inclusive to a wider audience.

Also, some folks without visual disabilities appreciate the option of listening to descriptions, which allow them to experience content without looking at their screens (like when you’re bingeing Netflix and cooking dinner).

Video description, described video, or visual description

Audio descriptions are also known as video description, described video, or visual description. Regardless of the terminology, the goal is the same: To give more people an opportunity to fully experience the content.

Passion for Accessibility

My passion for accessibility comes from both personal and professional experience.

Opportunity for everyone

One of my closest family members had low vision, so growing up, I experienced their daily challenges with reading instructions and signs, or attending movies and events. I’m excited to contribute to projects that increase opportunity for everyone.

Social psychology researcher

Besides my personal experience, I also have professional training in the diversity of human experience. I earned my master’s degree in social psychology. My primary research interests were stigma, prejudice, and intergroup relations, but I taught introductory psychology lessons on sensation and perception and a range of other topics.

Voice Talent for Audio Descriptions

I’m available to serve as voice talent for audio descriptions in all media ranging from television shows and film to corporate explainer videos, educational projects, museum exhibits and more.

American female young adult voice

If your project calls for a neutral American female young adult voice, I could be a great match! My voice is youthful, smart, confident, and relatable, without overshadowing your original work.

Clear, calm, and straightforward

My signature description voice is clear, calm, and straightforward. With descriptions, it’s important for listeners to distinguish between the original content and the added accessibility features. My voice can paint a clear picture to enhance your audience’s experience without distracting from your concept.

Skilled Professional Voice Artist

With years of training and experience, I am a skilled profesional voice artist who is uniquely qualified to provide audio descriptions.

Professional vocal training

My professional vocal training began when I was a teenager studying singing at Cleveland Institute of Music. Then, I earned my B.A. in music/voice, summa cum laude from The Ohio State University. Since graduating, I’ve trained extensively in acting for film and stage, and specifically in genres of voiceover including commercials, e-learning, animation, and more.

Relevant real-world experience

Before I became a full-time professional voice artist, I supported myself by teaching. I taught college courses in psychology, statistics, and research methods. Also, I taught classes preparing students for standardized tests like the GRE, GMAT, and LSAT. I’m used to making even the most difficult concepts engaging and clear.

Writer for Audio Descriptions

I offer content-writing services to my voiceover clients. So if you need a writer for audio descriptions, please let me know!

Plain-language writing

One of my specialties is concise, plain-language writing. I can condense complicated ideas into simple, clear sentences.

Creative writing

In my free time, one of my favorite hobbies is creative writing. I’m best known for my one-act play A Match Remade in Heaven, which was a Finalist at The Secret Theatre’s playwriting contest in NYC, and has been produced at other festivals in NYC, Austin, and Cleveland. Also, I’m the Amazon Best-Selling author of LOL from A to Z, a vocabulary edu-tainment series. And during grad school, I published academic journal articles in the field of social psychology. So no matter what style you’re seeking, I can help you. To learn more about writing credits, visit my writing page.
